OMG!
(Yes, I know I'm too old for OMG, but sometimes you just gotta).
Props to the geniuses of the Dreamspinner Press art department, for coming up with something that made me squee like a Twihard meeting a Robert Pattinson lookalike in the local grocery store. I really love this; it captures the mood of the story and characters perfectly. I've had a half dozen print covers designed for my work now, but not one of them felt *right* like this one does. They even put the coffee cups on there!
Made my day. Made my weekend.
I'm still waiting to get to the top of the editing pile at DSP, and begin work on revisions of this story. I'm a tiny bit nervous because I don't know how 'hard' the editing will be. I've worked with American editors before, but usually in collaboration with my British one - and British editors tend to make jokes about how harsh American editors are, and how American authors quiver in fear of them.
But at the same time I'm really psyched about getting this story out there, and can't wait to begin. Fingers crossed it'll be soon, before the anxiety gets to me and I start chewing my own hair or barking like a dog.

ReplyDeleteThat is an awesome cover. If you read my posts on book covers you are probably aware of the importance I place on covers because that's the first thing that attracts readers to a book. I suppose that if DSP already commissioned a cover the published story can't be too far behind. :)
Probably your biggest problem will be US English. Most British authors are irritated because US editors and publishers make them write "American," i.e. no British spelling - "z" instead of "s" etc. I had a rant several months ago in a review of a historical novel published by DSP (Dash & Dingo) where the editors changed the spelling to "american," which totally spoiled the book for me. Every time I re-read the book it makes me mad. :)
That aside, good luck on the edits.
I'll ask Christian to insert the cover on the "Coming Soon" carousel on the site if you send it to me in 200 x 300 (that's the normal size most publishers use).
Hi Wave,
ReplyDeleteWell, I've set my story in America so I can't get cross about using American spelling and grammar. I set MS Word to 'US Settings' and that picked up on a lot of things that I wouldn't have noticed. Hopefully there won't be too much in the way of mistakes. I'm more worried that they'll want me to add another love scene!
I'd love to have the cover put in the Coming Soon carousel, thank you! This image was sent to me as a 'sketch', so the final version might be a little different. I should probably wait until I get that before I send it to you. In fact, I should probably have waited before posting it here, but I was just too excited...
